Enhanced Domain

Salesforce will do some updates to improve the security and is requiring that customers enable enhanced domains to update the hostname formats for the domains that serve Salesforce orgs.

For the sandbox, domain enhances: the word sandbox is added to the URL as in the picture below.

Salesforce will start in late August 2022 for sandboxes but must be done in all non-production (demo orgs, Developer Edition orgs, free orgs, patch orgs, Trailhead Playgrounds, and trial orgs) environments before Winter ‘23. Enhanced domains are required for production orgs before February 2023.

Salesforce recommends starting to update the domains on the sandbox. After you complete testing in a sandbox, use the same process to update your production org.

Salesforce encourages you if the “My Domain Setup” page in your org shows “Step 3: Deploy New Domain” to do the provisioned change to enhanced domains manually before Winter ‘23.

URL Changes

When you enable enhanced domains, all URLs across your org contain your company-specific My Domain name:

When My Domain login URL changes, two multi-factor authentications (MFA) and security key verification methods will stop working, and they can’t log in to Salesforce if they only use these methods to authenticate, disconnect these methods for all users in Setup as part of your org updates.
